So what is Curves?
Curves is a health and fitness phenomenon that has taken women all across the world by storm.
It is a WOMEN ONLY fitness franchise that is designed to fit in with busy schedules - enabling women of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels to have access to a fast and effective fitness programme - which all takes place in a fun, welcoming, non-judgemental and friendly environment.

that virtually anyone can do!
It helps get, and keep, you fit (improving cardio-vascular stamina), helps you lose inches (toning and firming all the major muscle groups) and can help with weight loss (along of course with a sensible eating plan and a bit of determination!). We even offer a FREE weight management programme.
Curves is a fun fitness programme that involves using
- hydraulic exercise equipment (no fiddling around setting the amount of weight you want to push or pull against) designed to target all major muscle groups especially those in the areas the us women worry about- providing cardio, strength and resisitance training in one go!
- interchanged with recovery stations that ensure that the muscle groups have time to recover - to maximise the effectiveness of your circuit.
The programme is really unique as you only workout on each piece of equipment for
30 seconds at a time
yes we said SECONDS!!!!!!
This means that not only do your muscle groups get what they need to tone, shape and become stronger but it is also very difficult to become bored!
So unlike more traditional gyms there isn't the whole commitment to doing that minimum of 10 minutes per piece of equipment (at least) ... just a very sensible, easily achieveable YET EFFECTIVE exercise and fitness programme.
Oh - and there is definitely no requirement for wearing lycra (unless that's your choice!)
You complete circuits on the equipment - all set out in a circle for maximum ease and efficiency - normally 3 circuits per workout - which all adds up to the 30 minutes per session.

How often do I need to use CURVES for it to be effective?
3 times a week is the Curves way and you will see REAL results in just doing your 30 mins x 3 a week.
Of course come whenever you want and if you can't make it 3 times a week - don't panic!
If you can do your 3 sessions weekly then you are fulfilling the recommended government health guidance requirement which suggests at least 90 minutes of aerobic cardio-vascular exercise (that's something that gets you breathing deeper and raises your heart rate, to the rest of us everyday people) a week.
So ... about the exercise bit .... what do you actually do ....?
Once you are signed up and shown how to use every piece of equipment safely and effectively then - from then on
- you come in when it suits you (between 8.00am - 7.00 pm)
- you get changed (if you want to!) - but as long as you aren't wearing anything restrictive or dangerous (high heels etc.) you can do your circuit in pretty much what you are wearing. Because the circuit is designed to be time efficient many of our members simply put on a pair of trainers and change into a t-shirt. You don't need a new fitness wardrobe to come to CURVES!
- You simply join the circuit at any station (recovery board/piece of equipment) that's free. Because this is a continuous exercise circuit (it starts when we open at 8am and keeps going till we shut each night) you don't have to wait for the equipment to become free or wait till the next class starts. A real bonus when you are rushing home after work!
- You move stations every 30 seconds (prompted by a friendly American woman!)
- You do your 3 circuits
- You finish and complete your warm down stretch circuit
- You leave (go to work/out shopping/to pick up the kids/go home etc)! You can of course have a shower and get changed like traditional gyms (not all CURVES have shower facilities but Coleraine does) but most of our members simply grab their coats/bags and run (feeling righteous ... oh.. and energised!)
